We were looking at all of the options in the Berkshires and loved what we saw at Montessori . . . Now that we've read up on Montessori and seen it in action, we can see all of the benefits and see how much our child has changed over the year from wandering aimlessly at the beginning to focusing for long periods of time and learning so much!

We chose Montessori in general and The Montessori of the Berkshires more specifically because it provides an environment for our child to truly express himself and not feel limited by his teachers, his classmates, or his classroom. He thrives in an environment where the only standard he is held to is his own.
Additionally, I think that the Montessori model nourishes a child physically, emotionally and psychologically. And the emphasis on self-direction, choice and initiation has produced for us a child who is self-assured and confident in every aspect of his life. I think this is its greatest benefit, both to the child and the family, and it is a lifelong lesson.

I like how each child is responsible for cleaning up after himself, what a change! Before he started at the school I had to ask him to pick up his toys or put his dishes in the sink, now he just does it without being asked. He even asks to help me clean.

There are so many reasons I love the Montessori program. I'm not sure I can even think of them all. I love that the kids know their teachers on a personal level, and that you go by first names. I love the small class size. I love the mixed age ranges. I love that you give the children affection and extra attention and hugs if they need them. I love that you let them be who they are.

We sent our child to The Montessori School of the Berkshires because we liked the philosophy and the deliberateness and thoughtfulness and manner of the teachers. We continue to send him to the school because he has shown increased concentration time since going there, he looks at things in life as "lessons," he has learned about rules and respecting them, and he exhibits teaching behavior to younger children that is respectful and informative.

This is a place where children are expected to pull their weight and learn to be responsible for their actions and their belongings. They are free to pursue areas that interest them and the teachers are there to encourage and help them develop those interests. It is an interesting combination of structure and freedom.

Our child has benefited from Montessori by developing confidence, follow-through, curiosity, independence, and excitement about learning.

I value the intentionality and care that goes in to every aspect of the environment.

I had a great time working with your [elementary] class! What a collection of bright, open minds and creative souls... it truly was a pleasure to share that experience with your awesome bunch of kids.
