As I stand where the front door of the new school will be, I see nothing but trees, ledge, soil, earth. I look to the south, the playground, where students will run, jump, tumble, and play.  I look to the west, where the educational courtyard will serve as an extension of the classroom and provide children with a deeper connection to the outdoors.

Further to the west beyond the courtyard, a meadow of native grasses and wildflowers will lead to gardens, orchards, and a greenhouse to allow children greater opportunity to work with their hands, cultivating growth. To the north, beautiful rock outcroppings will provide natural landscaping and educational study. To the east I find an old rusty car that just so happens to be sitting where the parking lot will be.

I walk the 10-foot wide path that meanders back to Patterson Road.  This path was created to provide access for a boring rig to take soil samples and check for ledge during our planning phase of the project.  As I walk I envision the road it will become.  For the last seven months we have been plugging away, focused on planning and paperwork.  We have progressed.  This week we will begin to clear and prepare for the first stages of site work.

Our new "green" school is taking root.
